Hoosier Feeder and PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies, recently partnered to support Whitewater Career Center in Connersville, IN,
Through the PMMI U Skills Fund, Hoosier Feeder and the PMMI Foundation provided matching donations that enabled Whitewater Career Center’s Welding Technology Program to host a Regional FFA Welding Contest. The competitive event brought together 54 students from 10 area high schools, showcasing their welding expertise and sparking future career opportunities.
Local career centers like Whitewater Career Center offer high school students real-world experiences, skills, and knowledge to succeed in today’s workforce. Whitewater Career Center features a diverse range of 14 career training programs for high school students. The Welding Technology Program, in particular, delivers an extensive curriculum that includes various welding techniques such as oxy-fuel cutting and shielded metal arc welding, while also emphasizing safety practices, blueprint reading, electrical principles, and mechanical drawing.
This year, the Welding Technology Program includes 42 students. Alongside their coursework, students actively participate in competitions such as the recent Regional FFA event and the upcoming SkillsUSA contests. During their senior year, many students also gain hands-on experience through internships with local businesses, including Hoosier Feeder.
